Blood Run Beta has been designed to raise awareness of the rare blood disorder, thalassemia and one of its most common symptoms – extreme tiredness or "fatigue".
Keep an eye on your energy meter as you run and be careful of obstacles representing everyday scenarios that drain your energy faster! To power up your energy, jump into the blood drops. The blood drops represent blood transfusions – one of the main treatment options for people with more severe forms of the disease. Blood transfusions restore healthy levels of red blood cells through providing blood from a healthy donor. You’ll notice that jumping into a blood drop does pause the game momentarily to remind us how these hospital appointments can disrupt normal life.
Thalassemia is an inherited condition which prevents a person’s bone marrow from producing enough healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to all of the cells in the body to help them work normally. There are a number of different types of thalassemia. These vary from a very mild form to a severe disease that can be life-threatening if untreated.
The Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) has a wealth of resources and provides links to local organizations around the world, to help you find support in your own country: https://thalassaemia.org.cy/who-we-are/tif/membership/tif-members/.
